Looks like I may go with the GST transmission instead of the HST. So the price will drop from $16800 to $16300. ....

It certainly is subjective but I would sure take the Hydro any day for $500. If you are financeing at all on the 36 month 0 interest plan the payment difference on $500 would be very nominal. ....

What makes the HST better than the GST?

HST is H/M/L with foot pedal forward/reverse while GST is 12 forward/8 reverse with forward/neutral/reverse on the column?

Just don't understand what makes one better than the other. ....

Once you use the HST for a while you will and your resale will be better. In some respects you are compareing a manual trans to a automatic. There is especially a noticeable difference when useing some implements. $500 for HST is a bargain. ....

If I'm tight quarters while working give me a hydro. Thats for mowing and loader work. If you are going out to the big back forty and skid some logs off the hill, have 20 acres to be brush-hogged over hill and dale, give me a glideshift. Sorry boys that is where satisfaction levels are the highest! Unless you have a bare pocket and a broken down 8N then go for a economy tractor like the L-3000 and you will still notice a big improvement. ....

Well, went and put my money down yesterday on the new tractor. My final decsion and cost were:

Kubota L3830 $17,200.00
# HST Transmission
# 4x4
# R4 Tires
# 2 Rear Work lights
# HD Brush Guard w/five weights
# Fiberglass Top

The other attachments I got were:
- 5' Andy Bushhog Mower $550.00
- 72" BEFCO Finish Mower $1750.00
- 66" C&T 1618 Disc Harrow $575.00 (C&T supposed to be manufactured in Lyons, Georgia.
- 72" T.R. Heavy Duty Box Blade $420.00
- C & T 3Pt Hay Fork $230.00
- Post Hole Digger w/6" Auger $460.00
- 6' Rock Rake $385.00

Total Walk Away price was $21,570.

Was originally going to go with the GST but drove the HST and have to admit I really like the fact that I could go forward and back using the foot only and just had to pull foot of the pedal to stop. Figure the HST will work a whole lot better for me when I'm close quartered in the woods working around pine trees.

Sounds Like you are all set for some serious work. I think you made the right choice on the hydro. If you work around trees or in the woods it wont take long before you be whisteling happy tunes that you got the HST. Congratulations ....
